A Scotsman, an Irishman and an Englishman walk into a bar…
No, the title of this blog isn’t the start of a bad joke but refers to our annual adviser forum, which brings together existing partners with other advisers who are considering joining the PortfolioMetrix fold.
PMX Adviser forum
Our 2019 event was held last Wednesday and we had over 70 attendees who made the journey from across the UK (including Scotland and Ireland). It took place in Balls Brothers, a popular venue for City folk to discuss the events of the day over a glass or two of fine wine. Before PortfolioMetrix cracked open any bottles though, we had a packed agenda to get through.
One topic that attracted lively discussion was ‘Flaws with Centralised Retirement Propositions & Decumulation Strategies’. An interesting point that came out of this session was the demand from end clients for natural yield, even if the advisers may not be strong advocates themselves. Another well received session was our initial conclusions from the PROD roundtable that we hosted earlier in the month. We are working on a white paper that should be available soon but in the meantime please get in touch if you’d like to discuss our current thinking.
For the first time we included a separate track for paraplanners and this was very well received. The feedback we got was that the paraplanners themselves loved it, while our senior adviser partners were very appreciative that we had acknowledged the importance of their support staff. A couple of comments made to me were, “Yet again PMX is years ahead of their peers on this kind of thing” and “It is very smart to be focusing on the people who keep our business flowing”. It was great to hear that we are adding value in this way.
At the forum, we announced that Ben Peele has taken up the reins as our UK MD, with Mike Roberts, the previous MD, moving to a global role as Chief Proposition Officer. Ben has a wealth of experience that PortfolioMetrix can benefit from and I’m looking forward to working with him in this new role. He joined us in April this year as Strategy Director, so we’ve been working together for a while already.
Mike’s role is an exciting one, particularly as PortfolioMetrix is continuing to grow its global presence. Mike will be primarily focusing on innovation, regulation and marketing and all parts of the business will benefit from this, so he’ll still be very much involved with us in the UK.
If the week wasn’t busy enough, we had the good news that we’ve been nominated for some more awards! Investment Week has announced that we’re among the finalists for Discretionary Fund Management Group of the Year and we’ve had a tip off that we are up for a discretionary management award in the international space…but as that hasn’t been announced yet I’d better say no more than that.
Let’s hope this week is another great one for PMX and our adviser partners.
